UK Strongman North

Welcome to the dedicated web site for the UK Strongman-North competition run each year as a major component in the popular Northwich Festival (www.northwich-festival.co.uk) held each year on August Bank Holiday Monday. This event has now developed into one of the top strongman events in the UK.
 
Having started out way back in 1985 as the ‘Cheshire Strongman’ competition, run by Northwich RUFC, it has developed into a fantastic competition and attracts competitors from all over the country.
 
Regional heats were be introduced in 2007 not only to promote the competition around the North of England, but to allow novice and experienced strongmen to practice their techniques for the final in August
 
Mark Preece, competition director and former strongman, has devised some fantastic new events for the competition. For more details see the application forms.

2012 ‘UK Strongman North’ Competition
The UK Strongman-North will be holding three qualifiers this year.

North West Qualifiers - 13th May
Wales Qualifiers - June 3rd
South Qualifiers - June

As in previous years the finals will be held as part of the Northwich Festival 2012. The Novice Final will be on Sunday 26th August and the Open Final on Bank holiday Monday 27th August. Prize money for the competitions has yet to be sorted out but the open will be expected to be £500 for first prize with second and third prizes. Full information will be posted when sponsors are confirmed.

Trials of strength in this years Open Final will include :-

220kg Fingels finger flip - as many flips in 70 seconds
400kg Coonans circle - as many revelations as possible
400kg yoke for 20m then heavy duck walk 20m - fastest time wins
Stone wall five stone 120 to 160 - fastest time wins
Apollo’s axle weight 130 for reps 70 seconds
Van dead lift hold - longest time wins

and in the Novice Event

Wagon pull 7.5 ton wagon 20 meter course - fastest time wins
110 log head to head - most lifts wins
Wagon Tyres dead lift 220kg - as many lifts in 90secs
120kg Farmers walk 20m - fastest time wins head to head
300kg Yoke 0ver 20m - fastest time wins
120kg Atlas stone over yoke
